I personally believe the Protoss are an intermediate-level class. They are quite easy to play with, and you will do well just with the tier 1 and 2 combat units. Use this brief outline as a starting point for your Starcraft Two Protoss Strategy. Whilst they are not as simple to play with as the Terrans, it is much easier with all the Protoss than the Zerg.
Build Rapidly
The Protoss are classified as the quickest builders from the 3 available classes in StarCraft 2, and it is certainly something you can use to your benefit. What is exceptional concerning the Protoss is they do not really build anything at all, instead, it’s teleported onto the battleground directly from their home planet. Instead of building, probes just summon a structure, after which they are able to move onwards to a fresh task. However, the downside to this is that all Protoss structures need to be placed close to pylons.
Finish Strongly
The Protoss are also the most powerful race later in a game, and still have some brilliant sophisticated units available. If given time, they are able to assembled massively powerful combative force. On the other hand, the Protoss can summon a massed army quickly by making use of its warp gates.
Use your defenses
One of the best automatic protecting structure in StarCraft 2 is the single ownership of the Protoss, the photon cannon. Not only can it invasion ground combat units, it has detection abilities. When you get around 150 minerals, the photon cannon is potent enough to stop numerous forms of bothering enemies, such as reapers or the dark templar.
The one thing to avoid is that you don’t count too heavily on the photon cannon. A lot of players make the error of creating too many photon cannons and not sufficient mobile units!
Beginning tactics
The biggest weak spot you will find whenever playing with the Protoss is that they are incredibly sluggish starters. Thus, it’s easy to become hurried at the beginning. Things for instance gateways take a painfully while to build, whilst zealots are slower to create when comparing reapers and zerglings. And even if you do have lots of zealots, they may be quickly conquered by a much more competent opponent.
The very best beginning strategy with the Protoss then, is to rapidly grab yourself a gateway followed by the cybernetics core, to be able to get hold of a stalker or 2.
Another factor you will learn when playing Protoss is that not only are you effortlessly rushed, but you may be harassed very easily too, particularly where your mineral collecting operations are. Zerg players tend to mass large numbers of zerglings and regularly attack your probes, while the Terrans use reaper units to complete the same thing.
During these moments, there are 2 things which can be done to protect yourself. You may either get some cannons and protect the mineral base using them, or you can attempt to tech as quickly as possible, so that you can build advanced units like stalkers.
Both options possess negatives though, as building cannons will slow your technological advancement together with your production of units. Otherwise, attempting to climb the tech tree as quickly as possible will make you wide open to being rushed. Perhaps a balanced tactic is best!
The only real option for Protoss gamers then, is to scout the opponent as soon as possible, and try to work out what his next move will be. Only then can you prepare yourself, either producing cannons or going for stalkers. The key to winning with the Protoss is to start off with a strong defense, and wait until your tech level has advanced enough to be able to fight back!
